Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano (northwestern Wyoming, USA). Jet Geyser is a frequently active feature in the Fountain Group of Yellowstone's Lower Geyser Basin. It has an irregularly-mounded geyserite buildup that is ~11 meters long and ranges from 3 to 7 meters across. Jet Geyser is a multivent feature. Eruptions involve vertical, angled, and subhorizontal spouting from various vents. Individual eruptions are short in duration, ranging from ~0.25 minutes to about one minute long. When active, Jet Geyser usually has eruptions every 6 to 10 minutes or so. During most eruptions of nearby Fountain Geyser, Jet has very frequent, short-duration eruptions every 1 to 4 minutes. In 1998, researchers measured Jet Geyser's water temperature at 34.4° Celsius (= 94° Fahrenheit), with a pH of 9.6.
