Description
Čeština: Josef Matohlína (* 8. března 1897 Zdolbunov – 8. října 1943 Drážďany) po absolvování průmyslové školy v Oděse narukoval na frontu první světové války. Po návratu do Československa v období mezi válkami sloužil jako důstojník v prvorepublikové československé armádě. Po nastolení Protektorátu Čechy a Morava se zapojil do protiněmeckého odporu v rámci odbojové organizace Obrana národa, kde aktivně působil v rámci ilegálního Krajského vojenského velitelství pro severovýchodní Čechy. V únoru 1940 byla rozbita první garnitura Obrany národa a major Josef Matohlína přešel do ilegality. Poprvé byl zatčen v květnu 1941 v Novém Hrádku, ale podařilo se mu ze zajetí uprchnout. Podruhé byl zatčen v prosinci 1941 v Litomyšli, následně byl vyslýchán a vězněn v Drážďanech. V červenci 1943 byl odsouzen k trestu smrti. Rozsudek byl vykonán 8. října 1943 v Drážďanech. Po druhé světové válce v roce 1946 byl in memoriam povýšen do hodností podplukovníka a plukovníka.
English: Josef Matohlína (* 8 March 1897 in Zdolbunov - 8 October 1943 in Dresden), after graduating from the industrial school in Odessa, enlisted at the front of the First World War. After returning to Czechoslovakia between the wars, he served as an officer in the First Republican Czechoslovak Army. After the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, he joined the anti-German resistance within the resistance organisation Obrana národa (Defence of the Nation), where he was active in the illegal Regional Military Command for North-East Bohemia. In February 1940, the first garrison of the Defence of the Nation was broken up and Major Josef Matohlína went underground. He was first arrested in May 1941 in Nový Hrádek, but managed to escape from captivity. He was arrested for the second time in December 1941 in Litomyšl, then interrogated and imprisoned in Dresden. In July 1943 he was sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out on 8 October 1943 in Dresden. After World War II in 1946, he was promoted in memoriam to the ranks of lieutenant colonel and colonel.
