Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Joseph Steinaker House, 996 Fillmore Avenue, Buffalo, New York, November 2020. Undoubtedly one of the more well-kept of the remaining houses in the Broadway-Fillmore area, the Steinaker House is typical of the residences on Fillmore Avenue as being larger and more architecturally interesting than the humble workers' cottages to be found on the side streets. Representative of the Queen Anne style, it's notable for its gable-fronted hip roof, the unusual horseshoe-shaped window inside the peak of said gable, and the front entrance, which remains in its original configuration with leaded glass, tracery, and sidelights. Original owner Joseph Steinaker (1851-1904) was a Jefferson County, Pennsylvania native and a butcher by trade; his shop was located at the Washington Market for many years. He lived in the house from its completion in 1892 until his death, and his wife Magdalena (1858-1945) and son Grover (1882-1947) remained there for three more years thereafter.
