Summary

[edit]
Description

The 'surface stock detector' on the southbound Jubilee line just outside Finchley Road station - following the changes to the track layout which mean that subsurface trains can no longer travel on the Jubilee line tube train tracks the glass tubes which used to hang down from the gantry above the tracks have been removed.

The purpose of the detector was to prevent a subsurface train from using a section of track that led to a tube train tunnel. This was because tube trains are much smaller than the subsurface trains and therefore if the latter were to try and enter the tunnel it would instead crash into the wall above and to the sides of the tunnel entrance.
