Description
English: The Pan American Judo Union president Jaime Casanova on May 24th 2007,

has honoured the Canadian and regional Judoka Bernard E. Gauthier by inducing him post humously in the PJU Hall of Fame. The ceremony sponsored by Judo Canada and the Pan American Judo Union was held as part of the Pan American judo championship held in Montreal at the Centre Pierre Charbonneau. 24 countries participated in the competition. Bernard Gauthier was one of the four founders of the PJU some 55 years ago. He was the first Canadian to participate in the World judo Championships in Tokyo and served as the Canadian Judo federation’s president during the period of 1949-60. Mr Gauthier passed away in 1987. He was a judo teacher in the Ottawa region and gave lessons to members of several police forces, the RCMP, the military and the penitentiary service as well as numerous recreational associations. He was the judo master at the University of Ottawa and the first to introduced judo to the physically impaired in the early 1950’s. The PJU president offered a special certificate of recognition and a PJU ring to Bernard Gauthier’s family represented at the ceremony by his wife Joan and his two sons Michel and Richard.

La cérémonie commanditée par Judo Canada et l'Union panaméricaine de judo s'est déroulé dans le cadre du championnat panaméricain de judo tenu à Montréal au Centre Pierre Charbonneau. 24 pays ont participé au concours. Bernard Gauthier était l'un des quatre fondateurs du PJU il y a environ 55 ans. Il a été le premier Canadien à participer aux Championnats du monde de judo en Tokyo et a été président de la Fédération canadienne de judo pendant la période de 1949-60. M. Gauthier est décédé en 1987. Il était professeur de judo dans la région d'Ottawa et a donné des cours à des membres de plusieurs corps policiers, de la GRC, des militaires et le service pénitentiaire ainsi que de nombreuses associations récréatives. Il était le maître de judo à l'Université d'Ottawa et le premier à introduire le judo à handicapés physiques au début des années 1950. Le président du PJU a offert un certificat de reconnaissance spécial et une bague du PJU à La famille de Bernard Gauthier représentée à la cérémonie par son épouse Joan et son deux fils Michel et Richard.

Bernard E Gauthier fut aussi un membre fondateur de l'IJF et intronisé au temple de renommé de Judo Québec.
