| Description |
English: Two species of perennial bunched rushes, Juncus drummondii and Juncus parryi, are very common along the John Muir trail especially in subalpine and alpine dry to moist meadows but also as well in the understory at lower elevations. These two bunched rushes probably coexists and seem not to be ecologically distinguished. Rather both can be found across a fairly broad elevation and moisture gradient. The main, perhaps sole, difference between them is that Juncus parryi forms a well developed leaf blade whereas Juncus drummondii forms a rudimentary or abortive leaf blade emanating from the leaf sheath. Chief Lake (below Silver Pass) sits in the background. |
