Summary
[edit]DescriptionKBRC antenna tower.jpg |
English: Antenna tower of AM radio station KBRC, located in Mount Vernon, Washington state, USA. It currently broadcasts on 1430 kHz with a power of only one kilowatt. This common type of broadcasting antenna is a quarter wave "mast radiator"; the tower itself is connected to the radio transmitter in the white building and serves as the radiating element. Therefore the entire tower is at a high voltage; he base of the tower is supported on a brown ceramic insulator (bottom) to keep it isolated from ground. The conduit that passes up the center of the 200 ft (61 m) tower carries power lines for the aircraft warning lights at the top. The antenna array consists of both towers visible in the photo, fed 55° out of phase to create a directional pattern. This image is a mosaic made from 4 photos and therefore the tower appears artificially foreshortened. |
