Description
Nederlands: De metingen voor deze kaart werden verricht door J.F.A. Cateau van Rosevelt, officier, expeditieleider en ambtenaar. In de jaren 1871 en 1872 nam hij verlof en bereisde het binnenland van Suriname, samen met J.F.A.E van Lansberge. De kaart werd in 1880 door de Nederlandse regering gekocht, toen er grote behoefte bestond aan een betrouwbare grondslag voor de uitgifte van (goud) concessies. In cartografisch opzicht betekende dit grootschalige kaartwerk een grote verbetering ten opzichte van voorgaande kaarten. Toch is het nog typisch een kust-rivieren-kaart, waarop slechts het toenmalige economisch nuttige gebied staat aangegeven. Uitzondering vormt het stroomgebied van de Marowijne.
