Description
English: Jacobus Cornelius Kapteyn with his wife Catharina Elisabeth (Elise) Kalshoven in front of their tent at the Mount Wilson observatory, Pasadena, California, USA. They visited from July to October 1909 (his second visit) for his astronomical work, so this photograph was taken in that period. Notice the facial expressions and body language of the pair: her left index finger raised and intent stare, his averted look, with his legs uncomfortably crossed with an awkward left little finger on the edge of the table.
