| Inscription | Katzenturm Der in den Jahren 1491 - 1507 als Teil der Befestigungsanlage (Stadtmauer) erbau- te Turm erhielt seinen Namen von den dort befindlichen Kanonen, die mit Löwen- und Katzenköpfen als Zielrichtung versehen waren. Der Turm ist 40 m hoch und sein Umfang beträgt 38 m. Das oberste Geschoss wurde nach Abbruch der ur- sprünglichen Zinnen im 17. Jahrhundert aufgesetzt. Später erfolgte der Ausbau zum Glockenturm. Beim Stadtbrand von 1697 stürzte die Glocke herab und musste neu gegossen werden. Sie wurde wegen eines Risses im Mantel 1857 von Josef Graß- mayr umgegossen und hat bei einem Durchmesser von 238 cm ein Gewicht von 7500 kg. Damit ist sie die größte Glocke Vorarlbergs. |
