Description
Deutsch: Als Kelvinsche Schiffswellen bezeichnet man das V-förmige Wellenmuster, das fahrende Schiffe typischerweise hinter sich her ziehen.

Das Bild hier entstand bei einer Fahrt von Wangerooge nach Harlesiel, von Bord des Schiffes aus gemacht. Man blickt nahe an der Küste (nahe am Hafen) Richtung Osten über das flache Watt.

Klassischerweise ist die Wellenfront geradlinig. Die gebogene Form hier im Bild kommt wahrscheinlich durch die unterschiedlichen Wassertiefen nahe dem Ufer zustande. Je flacher das Wasser, desto langsamer die Welle. Der physikalische Effekt dahinter ist die Beugung.

Das Phänomen aus etwas mehr Nähe zeigt ein anderes Bild.
