Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A view of the Kenfield Homes in Buffalo, New York in December 2021. Designed by Chester Oakley and built from 1936 through '37 on a 71-acre tract of vacant East Side land, Kenfield was Buffalo's first public housing development, and the only one directly financed and constructed by the Depression-era Public Works Administration (PWA). Kenfield comprises 77 buildings which collectively contain 658 units of federally-subsidized housing for low income families, and, in the words of the Resource Evaluation issued by the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places due to its "significan[ce] in the area of architecture as an intact example of the simple, well-built construction and attached unit plan which defined" PWA-designed public housing projects.
