Bahasa Indonesia: Ketoprak (bahasa Jawa: kethoprak) adalah sejenis seni pentas drama tradisional yang diyakini berasal dari Surakarta dan berkembang pesat di Yogyakarta,[1] oleh karena itu kesenian ini sering disebut sebagai Ketoprak Mataram.
Pada awal mulanya, ketoprak menggunakan iringan lesung (tempat menumbuk padi) yang dipukul secara berirama sebagai pembuka, iringan saat pergantian adegan, dan penutup pertunjukan sehingga terkenal disebut sebagai Ketoprak Lesung. Dalam perkembangannya, Ketoprak kemudian menggunakan iringan gamelan jawa, dan penggarapan cerita maupun iringan yang lebih rumit. Tema cerita dalam sebuah pertunjukan ketoprak bermacam-macam. Biasanya diambil dari cerita legenda atau sejarah Jawa, meski juga ada cerita fiksi. Banyak pula diambil cerita dari atau berseting luar negeri (yang terkenal adalah cerita sampek engtay). Tetapi tema cerita tidak pernah diambil dari repertoar cerita epos (wiracarita): Ramayana dan Mahabharata. |
