Summary[edit]

Description
English: Tlingit totem pole from Tongass Village Island (Mortuary Pole: Man Holding Sculpin). Human figure holding a large club and a sculpin (Cottus), a bottom-dwelling fish.

Acquisition number 87.2.50.17, Totem Heritage Center, Ketchikan, Alaska, U.S. The Center provides a climate-controlled environment for display of some of the last 19th-century totem poles in Alaska, mainly Haida and Tlingit. If I understand correctly, the poles continue to be owned by their respective tribes and clans, and are considered to be on long-term loan for display at the museum.
