Description
Deutsch: Burg 1129 erstmals erwähnt, Ausbauten in den folgenden Jahrhunderten, 1801 Sprengung, 1815 an Preußen, 1816–34 Wiederaufbau als Teil einer Gesamtanlage unter Leitung der beiden Ingenieur-Generäle Gustav von Rauch und Ernst Ludwig von Aster; Kernbereich der Festung umschließt an der nördlichen Angriffsseite doppelte Befestigungslinien aus Hornwerk mit vorliegendem Graben, hohe Ostfront mit Festungskirche (Emporenbasilika), oberer Schlossplatz, niederer Schlosshof, tieferliegende Befestigungen, unter anderem Werk Helfenstein, vom Rhein Fahrweg, befestigte Treppe; erste Festung nach den Revolutionskriegen.
