Précisions sur l'auteur | Etienne Maurice Falconet (Paris, 1716 - Paris, 1791), célèbre sculpteur du règne de Louis XV qui fut au service de Mme de Pompadour. Remarqué aux Salons de 1755 et 1757 avec ses marbres l’Amour et Nymphe descendant au bain (dite Baigneuse). Falconet fut nommé en 1757 directeur de l’atelier de sculptures de la manufacture royale de porcelaine à Sèvres où il donna un élan nouveau aux créations sculptées en utilisant le biscuit de porcelaine tendre. Son activité se prolongea jusqu’à son départ pour la cour de Russie en 1766. Retenant les leçons de Puget et du Bernin, c’est toutefois l’influence du peintre Boucher qui prévaut dans ses sculptures. Falconet fait revivre dans ses sculptures un certain goût de la nature, d’un érotisme élégant, notamment dans ses figures allégoriques avec ses naïades, ses enfants joufflus, tout en gardant un goût classique. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
