Las neuronas RP3V KP inducen un aumento repentino de LH a través de la retroalimentación positiva mediada por estrógenos E2 y la ovulación que se muestra a la izquierda.

El receptor de estrógeno α (ERα) es responsable de mediar la retroalimentación negativa y positiva de E2. ERα puede señalar ya sea por translocación al núcleo y reclutamiento de cofactores al elemento de respuesta al estrógeno (ERE) (vía clásica), o por reclutamiento de otros factores de transcripción no a través de la ERE (en la vía "no clásica" ).
