Description
Deutsch: Lutherdenkmal auf dem Marktplatz in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg

Den Grundstein für das Denkmal legte am 1. November 1817 anlässlich der dritten Säkularfeier der Reformation König Friedrich Wilhelm III.. Die Enthüllung erfolgte zum Reformationsfest 1821.

Entwurf: Johann Gottfried Schadow
Motiv: Luther steht im Predigergewand mit der Bibel in den Händen
Sockel: Granit
Inschriften auf dem Sockel:

  • Ist's Gottes Werk, so wird's bestehn, Ist's Menschenwerk, wird's untergehn (Ostseite)
  • Von dem mannsfeldischen Verein für Luthers Denkmal durch gesammelte Beiträge gegründet und durch König Friedrich Wilhelm III errichtet (Nordseite)
  • Eine feste Burg ist unser Gott (Westseite)
  • Glaubet an das Evangelium (Südseite)
