English: The menara is a huge garden since its total area is more than one hundred hectares. The olive grove is composed of a garden, a pond and a palace. Initially, the basin was installed to irrigate the olive grove gardens menara.
The basin was equipped with a hydraulic system to convey water from the mountains (distant 30 kilometers anyway) to the olive grove. Gardens we can also admire this mountain range well known since it is the Atlas. This still functioning irrigation system was set up under the Almohad dynasty around 700 years ago. In the basin we can see a Saadian palace reflecting where the sultans were meeting. This square-shaped palace with a triangular roof was built in the nineteenth century. |
