Licensing

[edit]

According to w:Lackawanna Railroad President Perry Shoemaker, who was interviewed in 1992, the railroad never copyrighted any of its photographs, which were taken by company photographers between 1904-1934. Shoemaker, who was president of the railroad between 1953-1960, was present at the time when his predesessor, William White, donated the negatives to White's alma mater, w:Syracuse University, in 1951. Syracuse University retained the negatives for 60 years until the entire collection was donated to the US w:National Park Service's w:Steamtown National Historic Site in w:Scranton, Pennsylvania, where it currently resides.
