[edit]DescriptionLady Elizabeth Kitson and Sir Thomas Kytson Monument in Hengrave church.jpg |
English: Lady Elizabeth Kitson and Sir Thomas Kytson Monument in Hengrave church. Built by Elizabeth and she joined the momorial in time
This monument c.1608 houses Sir Thomas Kytson and his two wives. His first wife died and he re-married but he lies between effigies of them both! He was son of the Sir Thomas who built Hengrave Hall, and he was powerful enough to have entertained Queen Elizabeth I in 1578, despite his Catholic faith. It is said that she tried to argue him into Protestantism; in return, he presented her with a beautiful jewel! He has certainly left to posterity the beautiful jewel of Hengrave Hall and this church which he endowed. |
