1945. januárjában a fasiszták Budapest többi hídjával együtt English: Inscription in Hungarian on the pedestal of the northern stone lion sculpture at the Pest bridgehead of the Lánchíd. It translates to English as: “In January, 1945, the Fascists – together with the other bridges of Budapest – destroyed the Chain Bridge as well. A month later, the victorious Red Army liberated the capital and shortly the whole country of the people-oppressing rule of the Fascists. The Hungarian people's democracy in four and a half years made good the devastation of the war and Fascism, and rebuilt this bridge as well. On 20 November 1949, on the centenary of its first opening it was reopened to the traffic.”
