Deutsch: Im April 1945 nutzte die Wehrmacht die Burg Lichtenberg für ihre Artilleriebeobachter, die das Artilleriefeuer gegen die vorrückenden US-Amerikaner lenkten. Als am 19. April amerikanische Panzer den Beilsteiner Bahnhof erreichten, wurde die Burg als Ziel ausgemacht. Innerhalb von 20 Minuten schlugen rund 20 Panzersprenggranaten in das Gemäuer ein – Spuren davon sind heute noch zu erkennen.
Um ihre Burg vor einer kompletten Zerstörung zu retten, bestieg die Burgherrin Baronin Marie Luise von Weiler den Turm und entrollte eine schwedische Flagge, was den Angriff der alleierten Panzer sofort stoppte. Diese Tat rettete die Burg. Die Wehrmacht wich zurück und die US-Amerikaner nahmen das Bottwartal ein. |
