Description Visit in the Concathedral of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, the main altar of gilded gold, by goldsmith Poussielgue, Paris. After a visit in November 1869 Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph provided a grant of 20,000 gold francs for the altar. Pupils of Viollet-de-Duc, France, designed the neo-gothic style altar. On the retable of the altar are 3 reliefs depicting the Annunciation, the Wedding of Mary and Joseph and the Visitation of the Virgin, flanked by the Emperor's crest of two eagles. In the center the twelve apostles are displayed and the tabernacle is highlighted by a gilded image of the Mystical Lamb.
