Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The law office of Loran M. Bommer, 485 Michigan Avenue at Arsenal Place, Buffalo, New York, January 2021. Built in 1954, this building's original function was as one of three identical police stations designed contemporaneously by the firm of Duane Lyman & Associates (the others are found on Louisiana Street in the First Ward and on Bailey Avenue in the Lovejoy district). Modernist in design, the horizontal orientation of this low-slung edifice is emphasized by the division of the façade into three layers of different-colored brick, with decorative masonry work in geometric designs flanking the windows in the center layer. The entrance is framed by a pair of stout concrete pillars etched with recessed grooves flush with the top of the door and the bottoms of the windows. The building served as home to the Buffalo Police Department's 4th Precinct until 1995, when a consolidation program saw the Near East Side area fall under the aegis of the department's new District B. The city sold the building at auction four years later.
