Description
Català: Lleó de Bocairent (s. IV a.C.). Peça trobada en la contornada del poblat i necròpolis ibèrics de la Lloma de Galbis, al cor de la serra de Mariola, terme de l'actual Bocairent (València). Presenta una tipologia d'origen grec i influències fenicies, adaptada al gust dels artistes ibèrics. El lleó, com a guardià de tombes monumentals de personatges de llinatge important, simbolitza el seu valor i rang, i apareix, de vegades, formant parelles com a acabament final d'un pilar/estela. Pedra arenosa. 100 x 115 x 42 cm. Museu de Belles Arts de València.
English: Lion from Bocairente (4th-century BC.) Piece found on the surroundings of the Iberian village and cemetery of teh Loma of Galbis, at the heart of the Marolla mountain range, within the municipal district of Bocairente (Valencia). It presents a tipology of Greek origin and Phoenician influences, adapted to the tastes of Iberian artists. The lion as guard of monumental tombs of people from important lineage, simbolizing its value and rank, appears somtimes pairing the ending of a pilar/stella. Sandstone. 100 x 115 x 42 cm. C.). pieza encontrada en los alrededores del poblado y necrópolis ibéricos de la Loma de Galbis, en el corazón de la sierra de Mariola, término municipal de la actual Bocairente (Valencia). Presenta una tipología de origen griego e influencias fenicias, adaptada al gusto de los artistas ibéricos. El león, como guardián de tumbas monumentales de personajes de linaje importante, simboliza su valor y rango, y aparece a veces formando parejas como remate de un pilar/estela.
