Summary
[edit]DescriptionLe Redoubtable (50494201511).jpg | Le Redoubtable at the Cherbourg Maritime Museum, France, 28 May 2008. 8,000 tons displaLe Redoubtablecement submerged. It was launched in 1967 at Cherbourg, commissioned in 1971 and decommissioned in 1991. It was France’s first nuclear ballistic missile submarine (16 missiles being carried) and is now the largest preserved submarine open to the public in the world. It is also the only complete nuclear ballistic submarine open to the public, although the section containing the nuclear reactor has been replaced by a replica section – thankfully! Pictured is the submarine in dry dock. |
