Description

Lecanora pulicaris (Pers.) Ach., 1814

Photograph of cross sections of an apothecium from Lecanora pulicaris taken through a compound microscope (x400).   The upper photo shows the epihymenium and hymenium before exposure to KOH solution.   The lower photo shows the epihymenium and hymenium after exposure to KOH solution.   Most of the color of the epihymenium disappears when flooded with KOH.

This specimen of Lecanora pulicaris was growing on bark near the Endless Mountain Retreat, south on County Road 601, approximately 2.4 miles from US 250 in Highland County, Virginia, USA.
