Elevation: 316 m (1037 ft) Date: October 29, 2022. --- TAXONOMICAL INFORMATIONS Familia: Asteraceae Bercht. & J.Presl. Species: Leontodon saxatilis Lam. Subpecies: Leontodon saxatilis Lam. subsp. saxatilis First publication references: Fl. Franç. 2: 115 (1779). Synonyms: Hyoseris taraxacoides Vill.; Leontodon leysseri (Wallr.) Beck.; Leontodon taraxacoides (Vill.) Willd. ex Mérat; Thrincia hirta Roth.; Thrincia saxatilis Wallr.; Thrincia taraxacoides (Vill.) Gaudin --- MORPHOLOGY AND FENOLOGY Life-form: hemicryptophyte. Description (P.D. Sell, 1980): perennial or rarely biennial herb with short, vertical, truncated stock. Stems 1-numerous, 2-5-35 cm, simple, with few to numerous simple eglandular or long-stalked 2- to 3-fid hairs; bracts 0-2. Leaves 20-150(-250) x 3-10 mm, narrowly oblanceolate to oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse to acute, entire, dentate to pinnatifid, attenuate into a short or long petiole, with numerous rigid, simple eglandular or long-stalked 2- to 3-fid hairs. Capitulum solitary. Involucre 7-11 x 4-9 mm; bracts narrowly lanceolate, obtuse to acute, with few to numerous, rigid simple eglandular or long-stalked 2-fid hairs. Ligules deep yellow, the outer greyish-violet on the outer face. Stigmas yellow. Achenes 4,5-5 mm, brown, transversely muricate, of 2 kinds: outer curved and with a pappus of small scarious scales; inner more or less beaked, with the pappus-hairs in 2 rows, the outer rigid and simple, the inner plumose. Flowering: Flowering: generally from late August to November and from early April to mid June but in mild weather conditions it can flower for most of the year. ECOLOGY AND CHOROLOGY Habitat: meadows, pastures, borders of temporary ponds. On marly-arenaceous soil, moist from autumn to spring but often dry in summer. Vegetation belts: mesomediterranean; supramediterranean; submediterranean; colline; montane. Edaphic preferences: Ca; Ser; Ca/Si. Chorotype: European (Sub-Mediterranean and Sub-Atlantic). Global distribution (POWO, 2022): Native to Albania, Austria, Azores, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Corse, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Krym, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey-in-Europe, ex-Yugoslavia; introduced in Alabama, Antipodean Is., Arizona, British Columbia, California, Chatham Is., Connecticut, Haiti, Illinois, Indiana, Japan, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New South Wales, New York, Niue, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Queensland, Rhode I., South Australia, Tasmania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Victoria, Virginia, Washington, Western Australia, Wisconsin, Zimbabwe. Italian distribution (F. Bartolucci & alii, 2018): native in Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Marches, Latium, Abruzzo, Calabria; introduced in Trentino Alto Adige; longtime unrecorded in Campania and Apulia; absent elsewhere. IUCN global Status: LC (Least Concern). Notes: In Liguria Leontodon saxatilis Lam. subsp. saxatilis is a common plant, it is widespread from the coastal strip to the lower montane zone.
