| Description |
This is my kind of sight! Sinchon, just west of Seoul's city center and home to many universities and nightspots, has a sizable amount of LGBT nightlife. In fact, Lesbos, opened in 1996, is South Korea's oldest lesbian bar, and there are a few more lesbian bars within a short walk. Back home in Los Angeles, given that Korean immigrants and their megachurches are extremely homophobic (they would re-ban California's legalized gay marriages in a few weeks, and are even more devastating than the already devastating Muslim immigrant homophobes of formerly LGBT-friendly Amsterdam), it is easy to assume that there is no LGBT anything in a Korean context. Seeing LGBT culture in South Korea, in both historical and modern contexts, is a pleasant surprise. Sinchon primarily caters to women. Men and transgenders are found a few kilometers away to the southeast, in Itaewon, next to the former US Army base. |
