Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Jokhang Temple. Lhasa, Tibet

Jokhang is the holiest temple in Tibet, founded in 639 AD under the influence of two wives of King Songtsen Gampo: Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal brought a sacred Buddha image here as her dowry, and Princess Wencheng of the Tang divined the place where the temple should be located. Tall prayer flags mark the entrance.
