Summary[edit]
DescriptionLiving heritage of Ujjain - Chaubis Khamba Mata Temple.jpg |
English: The locally famous Chaubis Khamnba Mata temple is a historic structure situated in the core area of the city known as Mahakal Van. The original two-storey structure is constructed in Basalt stone masonry. It used to be one of the historic Gateways that allowed visitors and pilgrims to reach Shri Mahakaleshwar temple. At present (2021) the entry through this monument as Gateway has been restricted and it has been encroached by the local communities. Several new smaller structures have been constructed in new materials that affect the integrity of the site. The priests communities regularly organize prayers and rituals in this place and during special events like Sawari and festivals this place is decorated in vibrant colors. The beautifully carved stone columns are now in dilapidated state and the monument require urgent actions for its conservation.
