Original design by Fredrik Ljungström , Sweden early 1920's, to be used to increase the overall efficiency in steam turbine driven locomotives with coal fuel. The design was nominated as an historical landmark by ASME in 1995, ref: #185 Ljungstrom Air Preheater (1920.)
