Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1927-1929, this Art Deco-style skyscraper was designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst and White and Edward Mellon for Andrew W. Mellon, and for a long time housed the Koppers Chemical Company. The building stands 34 stories and 475 feet (145 meters) tall, and was the tallest building in Pittsburgh at the time of its completion, but lost this status to the Grant Building in 1930. The building features a limestone-clad exterior with a granite-clad base, decorative spandrel panels, replacement windows, a recessed front entrance, decorative cartouches and gilded lettering at the base, textured panels at the parapets, decorative pinnacles, and a decorative Art Deco-style pendant light at the main entrance. The building is a contributing structure in the Pittsburgh Central Downtown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, and expanded to its present size in 2013.
