Summary[edit]
DescriptionLom Kosov Pohled Na Jezero A.jpg |
Ačkoliv zde byla těžba kamene ukončena (a postupně dochází k zavážení lomu), vstup do lokality není široké veřejnosti povolen a v jezírku platí zákaz koupání.
English: The Kosov quarry is an abandoned limestone and slate quarry located in the Central Bohemian Region (in the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area) about 3.5 kilometres from the train station in Beroun, not far from the settlement of Jarov. The site consists of several quarry levels and a strongly elliptical (in the north-south direction) lake at the bottom. Although the quarrying of stone has been stopped here (and the quarry is gradually being closed), the general public is not allowed to enter the site and swimming in the lake is prohibited. The quarry was established by the nearby cement factory in Kralova Dvůr in 1909 and its operations have long supplied the Silurian limestone and shale mined here, which was used as a corrective raw material in cement production. The limestone was found in the upper stages of the quarry, while the shale was mainly found around the lake. The site is palaeontologically known for its cephalopod fossils and prehistoric marine fauna. |
