Summary[edit]

Description Lot 3447-23: Captured crew of the Royal Navy submarine HMS E-15. On April 17, 1915, she sunk at the Dardanelles, a narrow strait in northwestern Turkey connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara when she dived too deep and became caught in a hard current, resulting in her running aground. The submarine was destroyed in a courageous effort by Lieutenant Commander Eric Robinson, RN, the following day. Halftone image from the Booklet “The Great War in Pictures” showing the activities of the German armed forces during World War in 1915. These were intended for propaganda purposes.
