Image title	Louise Charlotte von Radziwiłl war die Tochter von Bogislav Radziwiłl, dem kurbrandenburgischen Statthalter in Preußen, der der calvinistischen Linie des Geschlechtes von Radziwill angehörte. Nach dem frühen Tod ihrer Eltern wurde sie seit 1669 unter der Vormundschaft des Großen Kurfürsten in Königsberg erzogen. Da ihre Eltern ihr ein nicht unbeträchtliches Vermögen und umfangreiche Besitztümer in Litauen hinterlassen hatten, hoffte der Kurfürst, sie mit einem seiner Söhne zu verheiraten. Als auch der polnische König Interesse zeigte, sie mit seinem Sohn zu verheiraten, musste schnell gehandelt werden, um die für Kurbrandenburg strategisch wichtigen Gebiete zu sichern. Daher entsandte der Große Kurfürst seinen jüngsten Sohn aus erster Ehe, Ludwig, 1680 nach Königsberg, um die Hand Louise Charlottes zu gewinnen. Dort wurde die Ehe zwischen dem vierzehnjährigen Markgrafen und seiner dreizehnjährigen Gattin im Januar 1681 geschlossen. Aus der Ehe des Paares, das am kurfürstlichen Hof in Berlin lebte, gingen keine Kinder hervor. 1687 verstarb Markgraf Ludwig im Alter von zwanzig Jahren unter nicht geklärten Umständen. Vermutlich entstand das Bildnis, das Louise Charlotte mit einem Bildnisihres Gatten in einer typischen Darstellungsform des Memorialbildes zeigt, nach dem Trauerjahr Louise Charlottes im Frühjahr 1688. Bereits anderthalb Jahre nach dem Tod des Markgrafen heiratete sie heimlich Kurprinz Karl Philipp von der Pfalz, den späteren Kurfürsten Karl III. Philipp von der Pfalz und verließ den Berliner Hof. Das Gemälde wird dem 1643 in Amsterdam geborenen Maler Jacques Vaillaint zugeschrieben, der seit 1672 als Hofmaler des Kurfürsten Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg in Berlin tätig war und dort 1691 starb. Während seiner Zeit in Berlin schuf er vor allem Bildnisse der kurfürstlichen Familie und Historiendarstellungen, darunter auch Deckengemälde für das Berliner Schloss. Spätestens seit dem 18. Jahrhundert befand sich das Bildnis im Berliner Schloss und wird heute im Schloss Oranienburg präsentiert. Dr. Alexandra Nina Bauer
