English: Built in 1960-61, this Modern building was constructed to house additional space for Holy Cross High School, including a gymnasium, science labs, a recreation hall, and classrooms. The building features a salmon brick exterior with a low-slope roof, aluminum trim, aluminum windows with opaque panels that let light in, a concrete and metal staircase with a decorative modernist wall at the exterior exit for the building’s gymnasium, glass block windows separated by concrete piers on the ground floor under the gymnasium, a concrete base, a one-story entry wing clad in split face concrete block featuring two double entry doors, which is a later alteration to the building, a classroom wing with an aluminum curtain wall with aluminum awning windows, opaque panels that allow light to enter above, and a spandrel panel between the two floors, and a side entranceway along 36th Street with a canopy supported by slender metal columns with a curtain wall above and opaque double exit door below. The building is a contributing structure in the Ritte’s East Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
