It is a very spacious place, surrounded by houses, this is the temple of Machhindranath. According to legend, Kathmandu was in dire need of rain for 12 years. Since King Narendradev had a dream at night saying that Gorakhnath was angry, many attempts were made to make Gorakhnath happy. However, as Gorakhnath was not happy, according to everyone's advice, the king went to Assam with two Tantrics for Kamrup Kamaksha and from there managed to bring Machhendranath to the Kathmandu Valley by a great measure. It is said that it rained when Gorakhnath got up to visit Machhendranath. That is why Machhindranath is said to be a contemporary deity. This temple was destroyed in the earthquake of 1990 and was rebuilt by Shri 3 Juddhashamsher. Jung Bahadur's son Padma Jung had erected nine stone pillars and statues. |
