Description

Chopera | Paseo de la Chopera Matadero Madrid is a former slaughterhouse which has been converted to an arts centre. It was then called El Matadero y Mercado Municipal de Ganados. The project of the slaughterhouse and livestock market was structured around a complex of pavilions characterised by functionality, constructive rationality and conceptual simplicity. There is however a historicist element to the architecture, which incorporates Neo-Mudéjar features, such as tiles with abstract designs. Arch. Luis Bellido y González 1910-25 Arch. Francisco Javier Ferrero Llusiá 1932-33 The buildings were in use as a slaughterhouse until 1996.

Here, El Pabellón de Servicios Generales was the center of management of the slaughterhouse and cattle market. After its change of use and transformation, it is known as the Casa del Reloj.
