Summary
[edit]DescriptionMain Building of Jung-ang High School 중앙고등학교 본관.jpg |
English: Designation: Historic Site No. 281 / Period: 1937
Location: 1 Gye-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul This building was founded in 1937 as the main building of Jungang High School. Originally, there was an old main building with red bricks completed in 1917 on this site but it was destroyed in 1934. This building was designed by Korean architect Park Dongjin and was completed in September 1937. Jungang Botong High School was a stronghold of the March 1st Independence Movement during the Japanese Colonial Period. Students of this school took the lead in the 6.10 Independence Movement on June 10, 1926. This school drew up a plan on how to educate the national movement and produced many leaders of distinguished talent. It is a stone building with 2 stories and has a central tower of Gothic castle style. There is a tower with battlements in the center of this building and it has a sharp arch shaped porch in this tower. There are bow windows on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The plane has an H figure and there are sub entrances on both sides of the building. Each classroom has quite large windows to improve lighting. It is a Gothic style building and was influenced by European and American schools of the day. |
