Half-length photograph of Major George Frederick Blackwood. He is standing with his left arm resting on top of a book on the table beside him to the right. He is wearing embroidered military uniform and there is a cap beside him on the table.

Major George Frederick Blackwood served with the Royal Horse Artillery during the Second Anglo-Afghan War. He was killed at the Battle of Maiwand in July 1880.

This photograph comes from an album from Queen Victoria’s collection titled 'AFGHANISTAN AND EGYPT PORTRAITS 1879 AND 1882' (RCIN 2501413). The album contains photographs of British soldiers who served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-80) and Anglo-Egyptian War (1882).
