Description
English: Makaira calvertensis (Berry, 1917) - fossil marlin bills from the Tertiary of South Carolina, USA.

This species is also known as Istiophorus calvertensis and Spatochoira calvertensis.

Makaira is a genus of bony fish commonly called "marlins". They have long, spike-shaped bills above the mouth. The fossils seen here are broken bills from a fossil marlin species.

Stratigraphy: Hawthorne Formation, Miocene to Pliocene
