English: In 1978, in an effort to keep business downtown, the City of Mankato built a mall in the middle of Front Street, a commercial street in downtown to create "Mankato Place Mall". The mall with its 1978 aesthetics, is a conglomeration of century-old buildings incorporated in a new building. Many of the stores have now been replaced with modern government offices.
