Summary
[edit]DescriptionMarble copy of the famous, bronze “Hercules Farnese” 03.jpg |
English: This statue was the pride and joy of the Archaeological Museum of Antalya. It must be doubted if it ever was in the İzmir Archaeology Museum. At least in 2012 and 2015 it was the piece de restistance in the Antalya one. There this text could be found: "The Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) agreed to return the top half of an ancient Hercules statue to Turkey. The marble copy of the famous, bronze “Hercules Farnese” sculpture, cast by Greek master Lysippos of Sikyon dated around 330-320 B.C., had been stolen from an archaeological site in the Mediterranean town of Perge and smuggled into the U.S. in 1981. It was found to fit with a lower torso still in Turkey. Now the two are combined. " |
