| Description | This is the eastern part of the dune field at Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado, US. The photo was taken from the high point dune on the western dune ridge at around 11:00 AM. It had rained the previous day and evening but was sunny and windy this morning. I believe all the marbled look is caused by the wind blowing dry sand over the darker wet sand. The prevailing winds are from the west, which would be blowing towards the camera. |
