Marbled page from The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman First edition. Volume 4. Publisher Hogarth; Ravenet; Dodsley, R.; Wood, H.; Monkman, Kenneth; Apencer, Walter T.

This volume is fully bound in leather over boards with red mottled edges to the text block. On the front paste-down there are 2 labels; to the top left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". Adjacent to these and written in pencil is "KM 14 State 1 Ml misbound". On the reverse of the title page of both volumes is a circular stamp with "Laurence sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. Stamped on the top right of the title page is "10" or possibli "IC" ? The spine has 5 raised bands. In impressed gilt capitols in the second panel down is "Life Tristram Shandy" on an ox-blood background. Underneath also in inpressed gilt capitols is "3&4" . The board rims have impressed gilt decoration. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page.
