Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano (northwestern Wyoming, USA).

Marmot Cave Geyser is a moderately small, low-energy geyser in the western Geyser Hill Group of Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin. It has an irregularly-shaped, steep-walled basin about 1 by 0.75 meters in size. Typical activity involves cycles of rising water, full-pool pulsing with overflow and low roiling, followed by water lowering out of sight. On 7 August 2018, these cycles occurred every 10 to 13 minutes.

Eruptions of Marmot Cave Geyser are rare. Some were observed on 7 August 2018 - eruptions occurred during the full pool phase of the cycles described above. Some were brief (1 to 2 seconds) while others involved spaced splashing over a duration of one to two minutes. Observed eruption heights ranged from less than a half-meter to between 0.5 and 1 meter.
