Summary[edit]

Description
English: Considered as one of the most beautiful mosques in India, the Jama Masjid in Lucknow is truly a gorgeous sight. Built entirely in yellow sandstone, the masjid was constructed by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1423.

Located in the midst of the city, the masjid is a fine example of Hindu-Muslim architecture. Also known as Jami Masjid, the masjid is thronged by Muslims during auspicious occasions and festivals. Standing tall on 260 pillars that support the 15 arched domes on different elevations, the masjid is absolutely divine. With delicate designs on the domes and intricate carvings on the pillars, this architectural wonder will leave you spellbound.

The designs on the pillars of the masjid have been inspired by the Hindu and Jain cultures and its a delight to all those who witness it. The masjid still stands in all its grandeur and glory and is an example of the beauty and spendour of the times bygone, that this famous city has stood witness to.
