Description
English: Italy Italy, Tuscany, Massa, Piazza Aranci. The Ducal Palace take place in “Piazza Aranci” wanted by Elisa Baciocchi as a wide space in front of the Palace, breaking down the St. Peter Church in 1808 to make room. The obelisk was placed in the center of the square and later was surrounded by the four white marble lions by Ludovico Isola in 1886. The original part of the Palace was built in the first part of 1500s under Carlo I Cybo-Malaspina as the Hall of the Swiss and the Ducal Chapel. The Palace took the present aspect only at the beginning of 1700s by the will of the Princess Teresa Pamphilj wife of Carlo II Cybo-Malaspina on plans of Alessandro Bergamini in Italian Renaissance style. The Palace is now home of the Prefettura.
